At Ocoee Adventure Center, we pride ourselves on having the most experienced and fun-loving guides on the river! You can request a guide in advance when you book your trip.
Fred, lovingly known as Fast Fred, is originally from Comanche County, OK. He has fond memories of rafting with his family during his childhood. While long a private boater he became a professional river guide in the spring of 2011. He became a certified ACA level whitewater kayak instructor as well in 2011.
Fast Fred spends the off-season traveling the Andes mountains of South America. He was originally drawn to the whitewater in Ecuador. But has since broadened his travels to include Peru, Mexico, and Guatemala. He loves experiencing the vast geography, local culture and absorbing the fascinating history of the region.
Fast Fred says the Ocoee River is interesting due to its 24 competing outfitters creating a unique culture among the guides. The fact that the water flow is controlled by a dam is a big plus during long droughts to guarantee a good time on the river. The big Class IV rapids of the Upper Ocoee and continuous Class III rapids of the Middle Ocoee make for a great course for aspiring kayakers to hone their skills. Fast Fred enjoys sharing the river with his guests and friends. He especially loves to take first-timers down the river to see the enjoyment on their faces! Check out his Ocoee River Guidebook.
Check out some of his fun videos on OAC’s YouTube channel and some endless summer blog articles like Ecuadorian Whitewater, Chimborazo, Lisan Wasi, and Diablada Pillareña.
*Please note that leaving a gratuity is a great way to show your guide appreciation for a fun day on the river.*
